Last weekend Worcester Wolves consolidated their position at the top of the British Basketball League with a high-scoring win at home to the Manchester Giants, and an impressive victory on the road at Durham Wildcats. The performances of two of the stars of the show, centre Will Creekmore and point guard Zaire Taylor, have been rewarded with places in the latest BBL Team of the Week.

Creekmore had a big impact In Friday’s 118-102 slaying of the Giants, tallying 30 points and 14 rebounds. Just two days later against Durham he demonstrated his unstoppable stamina when muscling aside his opponents for an equally fine haul of 32 points and 15 rebounds. Trying to slow Creekmore’s power with fouls had little effect as he proceeded to slot home 15 of 16 shots from the free throw line.

Worcester Director of Basketball Paul James was almost lost for words when describing the impact his first-year centre is having, saying: “What can I say? Will is rock-solid, both mentally and physically. It’s no secret that we look to create situations where we can get the ball to him inside, but he’s the one who still has to finish the play. Week in and week out he delivers.”

Zaire Taylor had a solid 16-point performance in the 100-86 win in Durham, but it was his sharpshooting against Manchester that really caught the eye. He astonished spectators at the University of Worcester Arena by floating home seven three-point baskets after only 15 minutes of the match had elapsed, making eight from nine attempts in the game as a whole. In addition, he dished out eight assists to his team-mates and stole the ball off Giants attackers on four occasions.

James was thrilled by Taylor’s 37-point display, and by his accuracy from distance, commenting: “Zaire is undoubtedly a very talented player. Not only did he hit a barrage of threes, but most of them were from way behind the three-point line. Every now and again players can have nights when they are on fire. Friday was one of those nights for Zaire.”
