Friday 01 November 2013 – Worcester Wolves vs Plymouth University Raiders

Worcester Wolves will take part in both league and cup action this week. First up will be a league encounter against Plymouth University Raiders at the University of Worcester Arena this Friday (tip off 7.30pm). On Saturday evening the Wolves will face a tough trip to their Midlands rivals the Leicester Riders, for a BBL Cup quarter-final tussle.

Wolves’ Andreas Schreiber wants to punish Plymouth when the teams meet on Friday. The frontcourt force had been the only returning Raider from last season, but was cut by new coach Jay Marriott just three games into the season.

He was swiftly snapped up by Wolves coach Paul James however, and is now enjoying his basketball with the unbeaten league leaders. Schreiber said: “We play with no fear, even when we are down a few points. We play for each other.

“We are not willing to accept any defeat whatsoever and I think our common goal is what puts us at the top. Paul James has done a great job in recruiting the best of leaders, as well as saturating the team with an understanding of roles and cohesiveness.”

Understandably, Schreiber heads into this game with added incentive, but is aware he must manage this in order to be successful, saying: “Playing with a chip on your shoulder is a very powerful thing. Learning to channel that emotion is the key to determination and success. My past involvement with Plymouth has boosted my motivation for this entire season, and maybe even for my entire career.

“My current team-mates all have my back on this matter. We want to punish the Plymouth Raiders, and I have no problem saying that. They are a very talented team, but there is no doubt in my mind that we will find a way to win this game.”
Meanwhile Raiders coach Jay Marriott commented: “My focus is to build a team to play the way I believe it should look and how I think can benefit us, not just now but for the future.

“With Will Creekmore, Andreas can be what he is, a player that finds the grey areas, takes advantage of the limelight not being on him and takes advantage of mismatches.”
