Worcester Wolves are a successful professional British Basketball League (BBL) club. Since Wolves were formed in 2000, the club has worked hard to promote the sport on and off the court at local and national level.
The match experience offered by Wolves appeals to a wide-ranging audience. As well as fast-paced professional sport, additional entertainment on game night includes light shows, music and cheerleaders. Crowd participation is actively encouraged, with ‘Wolfie’, the Wolves’ famed mascot, leading the way.
Players are selected from home-grown talent and overseas professionals. The BBL season consists of 35 to 40 games, starting in September and finishing in May, with additional cup competitions and end of season play-offs.
Worcester Wolves currently play at the 2000 seat iconic University of Worcester Arena, which sits in a prime riverside location, served by excellent transport links. Significantly, the Arena was announced winner of the 2015 Guardian ‘Buildings that Inspire’ award. Since its opening in 2013, the Arena has staged numerous major international events, in cluding Netball Super League Finals and National Badminton Championships. The summer of 2015 will see the Arena play host to the European Wheelchair Basketball Championships.
BBL games are regularly featured on BBLTV and Eurosport. The 2015 play-off final at the O2 Arena will be televised live by the BBC. Worcester Wolves are now one of the most successful basketball franchises in the country and consistently finish top four in the league. The 2014 season saw the Wolves enjoy their most notable success to date, securing the BBL National Trophy at the Emirates Arena and the BBL play-off championships at Wembley Arena.
The Club has a well-established development programme, also fielding men’s seconds, junior, women’s and wheelchair basketball who all play in competitive national leagues. Club players and coaches have the opportunity to participate in the Wolves’ community and schools outreach programme, whilst supporting a wide range of local and national charities.
