Friday 15 February 2013 – Worcester Wolves vs Mersey Tigers

Worcester Wolves play the first part of their weekend doubleheader this Friday evening when they face struggling Mersey Tigers at the University of Worcester (tip off 7.30pm).  Wolves sit in sixth spot in the BBL Championship with an 11-9 record while the Tigers remain winless after 22 games. Paul James' Wolves side have enjoyed comfortable wins in both of their games against the Tigers this season, winning 98-48 at home in mid-October and repeating the trick a fortnight later with an 86-54 road win. Despite Tigers' poor season, Wolves' coach James won't be taking the Mersey team lightly: "We don't believe we are that good a team where we don't have to prepare for some teams. We are totally focused as a group and understand that we must try and be better today than we were yesterday.. (more…)

Friday 08 February 2013 Newcastle Eagles 88-94 Worcester Wolves

Worcester Wolves shocked a sell-out crowd at Sports Central Newcastle on Friday when overcoming the hometown Eagles 94-88 in the quarter-final of the BBL Trophy. Neither side was able to pull clear of the other until the final minute when the Eagles were reduced to fouling the Wolves in order to slow down the game clock and stay in the contest. Wolves’ guard Alex Owumi dominated the night’s scoring with 34 points, including seven three-point baskets, setting his team up for a two-legged semi-final against Leicester Riders. As in the last matchup between the teams, in December, the pattern of the game was set early with neither side able to dominate. Eagles’ centre Kareem Maddox began the scoring with a dunk before his opposite number for the Wolves, Arturas Masiulis, also slotted the ball home. Both players netted four points each over the next few minutes. Sherrad Prezzie-Blue made his return from injury midway through the opening quarter to take over at the point guard position, laying on a neat pass for forward Stan Ocitti to connect with a three-pointer to close the period with Wolves ahead at 23-20. Stans the Man again for Wolves

Worcester Wolves’ power forward Stan Ocitti has received the honour of being named in the starting five of the latest BBL Team of the Week. His second appearance amongst the league’s best comes after an impressive display in Wolves’ 88-75 victory over Manchester Giants at the weekend. Ocitti registered a double-double of 20 points and ten rebounds in last Friday’s contest, combining well with Wolves’ centre Arturas Masiulis to prevent Giants’ Great Britain pairing of Mike Bernard and Nick George from making any impact around the basket.. Manchester Giants 75-88 Worcester Wolves

A performance that was described by their coach Paul James as their most clinical of the season so far was enough for Worcester Wolves to see off Manchester Giants 88-75 on Friday. The Giants had overwhelmed Surrey Heat in their last game at the Wright Robinson College a fortnight ago, while the Wolves had lost in overtime to the same opponents last week. However, after pulling ahead in the second quarter, a focused and well-drilled Worcester side made sure that the Giants had no inkling of consecutive home victories. With Sherrad Prezzie-Blue still watching from the side lines while rehabilitating a knee injury, Carlos Fernandez once more took over playmaker duties. It was Fernandez who opened the scoring and a moment later laid on a score for power forward Stan Ocitti. A further five points from Ocitti helped the Wolves to edge to an 18-15 first quarter advantage. (more…)
